Review of You Theory Men’s Supplements
Getting Older Doesn’t have to Suck
Perhaps you crossed that invisible line of getting older, slightly thinning hair, developing a dad bod, and tightness in the knees. During my mid-30’s, I learned that I have to take positive control of my health. I increased my exercise,
eliminated reduced fatty foods, and started taking supplements. I experimented with B vitamins and fish oil pills with positive results. This article will highlight supplements from YouTheory.
During my recent visit to the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, I met the folks from YouTheory a nutritional supplements company. YouTheory had just launched a Men’s line of supplements, that are designed for men’s health from peptides to collagen.
Their products matched my goals and I decided to give them a 3 month trial of their major products that matched my health goals which was to loose 20 pounds, exercise without causing more damage to my knees and ankles and lower my blood pressure.
During the natural products expo, I chatted with the company medical doctor who oversees the products dosage, efficacy. The Doctor explained that their efficacy is based on published studies of dosage of the active ingredients.
I tried two types of Collagen pills, Turmeric, Revive, and Hyaluronic acid. Below are the supplements that I tried and my reaction to how well they worked.
Collagen Type 1 and 3
Collagen is a structural protein used by the body to create strong nails, hair, bones, tendons, skin and connective tissue. There is a big push on people eating bone broth, this broth has similar benefits of taking collagen pills.
Collogen Type 1 and 3’s formula is targeted for connective tissues like ligaments, tendons and cartilage. The Type 1 and 2 collagen helps maintain joint flexibility and is reported to help with inflammation. This product is made with bovine based.
Collagen 1&3 (bovine) (5,000mg)
Fo-TI Extract (root) (420mg)
When I took this product for 6 weeks straight, I noticed subtle improvements (less days of soreness and lower degree of ligament soreness) in trouble areas like my tennis elbow. Of all the pills, I found this one to be the most cumbersome to take as it required me to take 3 pills, twice a day, as a result I did not take the recommended dose. I am sure I am not the only person who will have the same problem.
Collagen Type 2
This collagen blends chicken cartilage and anti–inflammatory herbs to help restore cartilage and joint function. This product is designed specifically for the joint function, by providing the raw collagen that is best used by the joints.
I used this product for 90 days and I noticed results within 2 weeks. From the extra exercise, my already damaged ankle and knee cartilage was hurting on and off. This pain was starting to limit my exercise. After the two weeks of taking the joint collagen, my days with knee pain reduced by half and when I had pain, it was lessened. No supplement will cure your injuries or degeneration, but this product helped reduce issues.
- Chicken Collagen Type 2 (contains a naturally occuring mix of type 2 sternal collagen and Hyaluronic Acid)
- Men’s Joint blend containing -Bromelain (pineapple stem), Cinnamon Extract, Boswella Serranta Extract, Ginger Extract, and Black Pepper Extract (250mg)
This supplement is an anti-oxidant and natural energy stimulant made with a cocktails of natural stimulants. This product provides the most immediate and noticeable effects, in comparison to the other products.
Taking the Revive supplements made me feel like I drank a small cup of coffee and a b12 fizzy drink at the same time. I do not get a energy rush, but rather a long build up of constant energy. I generally felt a spring in my step and a generally good mood.
For me, the benefits lasted between 3-6 hours after taking the supplement. It doesn’t jack you up like the 12 hour energy shots. I regularly take two of these one hour before a workout or during my 2:00 p.m. low at work.
- POMx Pomegranate Antioxidant extract (400mg)
- Energy blend of Aloe Vera Gel Powder, Black Tea Extract, Green Tea Extract, Cococin Coconut Solids, Cayenne, African Mango Extract (750mg)
Turmeric is one of the en vogue “super spices” that has research to back up its health claims. Some of the benefits that I found appealing include , anti-inflammatory, immune system boost, helps reduce cholesterol (but not a silver bullet), natural fat burner by helping to foot metabolism, reduces headaches due to anti-inflammatory properties.
My personal experience with the turmeric is that I took it for 2 months straight and I did experience fewer headache days and less body aches. Purely anecdotal and possibly coincidental, but I have not gotten a cold or flue since taking these pills.
- Turmeric Extract 95% curcuminoids) 450 mg
- Olive Leaf Extract (Olea Europea) 300mg
- Bioperine Black Pepper Extract (piper nigrum) 15 mg
Hyaluronic acid is a building block in the connective tissue of your skin and joints, as it is used to bind together elastin and collagen. As we get older, specifically over 40, your body produces less Hyaluronic acid.
Without a supply of Hyaluronic Acid, you joints get less lubrication and your skin will start to sag. I don’t have time for that! I noticed the benefits of this the Hyaluronic Acid within a couple days. I purposely took this supplement before attempting the collagen or the turmeric to see if I felt a different on my knees.
- Hyaluronic Acid (100mg)
- Joint Support Blend – Bowweella Serranta Extract (resin), Bromelain (pineapple stem), Gineger , Cayaenne, White Willow Park (1,100mg)
My Final Thoughts
No supplement will cure your ails, nor will they eliminate the need for regular exercise, healthy eating, and weight loss. With that said, I found that the supplements from YouTheory definitely helped me reach my health goals.
I personally liked that the supplements area tailored to a male’s body. The only major downside of these products is the number of pills I had to take daily to hit the recommended dosage. At the end I was taking close to 9 supplement pills a day (Joint Collagen, Turmeric and Revive)
There are many brands of supplements, pick the one that is right for you. I personally liked YouTheory and wold buy more when I am empty. Specifically I found that the Joint Collagen, turmeric, and Revive
You can purchase these at Sprouts, GNC, and Vitamin World. I also spotted them at Costco a couple weeks ago.
