The very First Annual Newport Beach Wine and Food Festival will showcase live cooking demos with celebrity chefs, local restaurants, elite sommelier panels, master mixology courses, wine tastings and live music from international jazz artists. Set amongst the stunningly contemporary grounds of the Newport Beach Civic Center and at various restaurants around town, the much-anticipated festival will guide you through a three-day journey filled with flavors and tastings from some of the finest local and world-renowned culinary masters.

What: Hosted by Master Chef Rick Bayless at RED O Restaurant Newport Beach

Enjoy an exclusive evening featuring a cocktail reception with hand-crafted cocktails by Casamigos and sponsor Duke Spirits, followed by a three-course food and wine pairing hand selected by Chef Rick Bayless and sponsored by Cherry Tart Wines. Proceeds from the live and slient auctions will benefit the Festival’s charity partners.

Sommelier Panel – The Liquid Gold of California

Our panel of 5 wine specialists will taste and discuss together with all attendees a flight of 6 important grap varietals grown in California.

The first 3 wines will be analyzed in a blind-tasting (blind for all Sommeliers and guests) with the objective to determine the correct serving order, while the next 3 wines will be known classic that are discussed as popular representatives of California wine.

Expect the following wines in this exciting sommelier panel discussion and tasting seminar: Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, ZInfandel, Pinot Noir.

Sommelier Panel – A Systematic Comparison Between Old World and New

Enjoy a panel discussion featuring 3 pairs of wines, where each New World wine will be compared to an Old World wine with a similar flavor profile. The sommeliers will attempt to establish which wines belong to the Old World, and which ones have a New World profile.

You can expect the following wines in this sommelier panel discussion: Riesling from Germany and California, Zinfandel from California and Amarone from Italy, and Pinot Noir from Burgundy and Oregon. Listen to the delightful sommelier commentary that will serve the objective to assist consumers with identifying their own preferences without bias.

Café Jardin, set within the Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona Del Mar, will be hosting the grand finale party. Enjoy an evening under the stars, while Chef Pascal entertains guest with his gourmet seasonal coastal cuisine in an elegant outdoor botanical garden ambience. Surprise celebrity chefs will attend the soiree to mingle with guests and join in toasting to the end of a groundbreaking first year for the Newport Beach Wine and Food Festival. Tickets sold separately for this event.

About Tom Holmberg

Tom grew up in a cultural diverse neighborhood and a culturally diverse family, so he has learned to appreciate all types of food. "I am not a Chef, nor do I play one on T.V., but I have learned to appreciate food from years of eating and cooking." Tom also spent 10 years in the restaurant industry in various roles, from Prep Cook to server.
