Win two $7 gift cards to Rubio’s to try their Ancho Citrus Shrimp Burrito

Rubio’s became a staple of my diet while I attended San Diego State University
A College Student’s Diet
I was recently asked by Rubio’s to try out their new Ancho Citrus Shrimp burrito. Although I normally do not cover this restaurant format, I have been a long-time fan of Rubios. While I attended San Diego State University, a large portion of my diet was based on fish tacos. Since Rubio’s had a restaurant on campus, I was a regular customer. Since then, Rubio’s remains one of my guilty pleasures. Now that I am older, I have to skip the fried fish. My new favorite at Rubio’s is their grilled seafoood. This taste test was right up my alley.
Rubio’s Ancho Citrus Shrimp Burrito
As I previously mentioned I have to watch what I eat, since I am not longer 21 year-old. The ancho shrimp burrito is 663 calories and 24 grams of protein , not bad for a fairly large burrito. I also like the fact that the Burrito is made with sustainable shrimp.

Rubio’s Ancho Citrus Shrimp Burrito
The shrimp is pan-seared with ancho chiles, garlic, cilantro, and top with fresh lime juice. The shrimp is wrapped in a tortilla along with citrus rice, gaucemole, black beans, salsa fresca, romaine lettuce, creamy chipotle sauce and red tomatillo salsa. The size of the burrito is solid, with the right amount of shrimp to other ingredients.
Ancho chiles naturally are medium heat with a slightly sweet flavor. In the burrito, the Ancho chiles provided a nice flavor layer to the burrito and a subtle, yet persistent, heat. I recommend you squeeze some extra lime into the burrito as you bite, as the acidity added an additional flavor layer.

My Final Thoughts
Although chain restaurants are not normally covered in my blog, I was impressed with their new burrito. What I like about Rubio’s is that they make their beans from scratch and without lard, make their own salsas. The result is always a clean and fresh flavor in their food. Rubio’s ancho citrus shrimp burrito was a nice addition to menu and I would order it again. Have you tried this item? Send me your thoughts and I will publish them right here.

Looks yummy! I love shrimp and this is something that I would love to try one day! Thanks for sharing!
I have loved Rubio’s since they only had one little stand in Pacific Beach. It had horrible parking and great fish tacos. It’s been all uphill since then. Fast food or not, they have really good food, with most items made fresh on site every day. Woo hoo!
My family LOVES Rubio’s! WE eat there about every 2 weeks. Great give-away!
Wish we had a Rubio’s here! All your posts make me want to move to California and eat my way through the state. LOL
